Inhibition of energy transfer reaction in mitochondria by the photosensitizing dye "NK19"--brief note.
نویسنده
چکیده
Among various photosensitizing dyes, 4, 4’-dimethyl 3, 3’-di-n-heptyl-8{2-(4-methyl-3-nheptylthiazole) }-2, 2’-dicarbocyanin diiodide (abb. NK19), even in an extremely low concentration, is known to inhibit the proliferation of bacteria and tissue culture cells (1, 2, 3). With respect to the mechanism of such inhibitory action no other property of this NKl9 is known except that it has a marked adsorptive property to protein (4). As a step toward the elucidation of the mode of biological effect, the author studied the effect of NK19 on the energy transfer reaction of Irat liver mitochondria, followed by comparison with the mode of actions of various other inhibitors of the oxidative phosphorylation (5). NK19. NKl9 can be prepared by letting 2, 4-dimethylthiazole heptyliodide react with ethylorthoformate in anhydrous acetic acid. We used NKI9, a product of Nihon Kanko Shikiso Research Laboratories. The molecular structure is as in the following and in its MeOH state it has maximum absorbancy at 590 m,a. For the use in experiment it was made into 1 mg/ml of MeOH and was stored in the dark until used. ∗PMID: 4243565 [PubMed indexed for MEDLINE] Copyright c ©OKAYAMA UNIVERSITY MEDICAL SCHOOL Acta Med. Synthesis and Photosensitizing Properties of an Activatable Phthalocyanine-Subphthalocyanine Triad
In this article, we describe a photosensitizer (PS) whose ability to generate singlet oxygen (1O2) and fluorescence emission has been designed as tumor responsive. More specifically, the PS consists of a silicon phthalocyanine (SiPc) core, axially substituted with two subphthalocyanine (SubPc) units, covalently linked by a disulfide linker, which is cleavable in the presence of a strong reducin...

In this study interaction of phenothiazine sulfur dye with (5, 5) armchair open-end boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) in interaction (with a length of 7 Å) was investigated. The impacts of the estereoelectronic effect associated with donor-acceptor electron delocalizations, dipole-dipole interactions and total steric exchange energies on the structural and electronic properties and reactivity of ...

The main aim of the present work was to investigate the potential effect of acetone extract of Ficus religosa leaf (FAE) in multiple apoptosis signalling in human breast cancer cells. FAE treatment significantly induced dose and time dependent, irreversible inhibition of breast cancer cell growth with moderate toxicity to normal breast epithelial cells. This observation was validated using Sulf...

The dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSC) have been regarded as one of the most promising new generation solar cells. Tremendous research efforts have been invested to improve the efficiency of solar energy conversion which is generally determined by the light harvesting efficiency, electron injection efficiency and undesirable electron lifetime. In this review, various characteristics of dye-...
